Yet, while revision is always occurring, it tends to go unnoticed. On the one hand, the revision and reshaping of the past take place at the pace of glacial drift. On the other hand, when history is revised-usually for political reasons-the changes are hidden under a cloak of factuality. To foreground the revision of the past is to loosen the rhetorical power of actuality. The goal of "History Re-Purposed" is to challenge historical actuality by replacing given history with a consciously-designed past.
